In the competition of technologies – internal combustion engine, battery/electric drive and fuel cell systems – and their combinations, AVL is working intensively and with the same priorities.
AVL has digitized the vehicle development process with state-of-the art and highly scalable IT, software and technology platforms, and creates new customer solutions in the areas of big data, artificial intelligence, simulation and embedded systems in an agile and integrated development environment.
In the project iLIDS4SAM, AVL is in the lead of work package 7 “Testability & Validation”. For this work package, the final validation and approval of ADAS/AD on-vehicle detection systems requires real-world reference measurement systems with high-quality external sensors and good correlation to environmental conditions, giving way to the so-called (dynamic) "ground-truth" (DGT).
A key project outcome will be an extended functional demonstrator for an advanced DGT reference measurement system for real-world urban environment validation of novel on-vehicle ADAS/AD systems.
The data recorded will also be used as input for scenario generations, highly relevant for advanced ADAS/AD simulation in urban areas. AVL state-of-the-art instrumentation/test infrastructure, technologies, tools and labs will be used, including instruments and systems for powertrain and vehicle testing, diagnostic sensors/detectors, optical systems, consumption instruments, gas and emission measurement equipment, transmission, e-motor-, battery- and fuel-cell testing instrumentation as well as complete ICE-, battery-, fuel cell-based and ADAS/AD-powertrain and vehicle test beds. In addition, various simulation and modelling platforms are available.
